Hey everyone, it’s a new year, and there are plenty of changes to go along with it. For starters, we have an all new Exec team! Over the next couple of days we’ll be going through and updating all of our info on here, but while that is happening, I just thought I’d let you know about some of the amazing things we have planned so far for this semester. But first, a very happy announcement! We have lowered our membership prices to the ridiculously affordable price of $2. That’s right folks, a toonie will now get you an all access pass to every CNERS event and gathering for the entire academic year! Awesome, right?!?!
For our first event of the year, on October 10th, we will be hosting a roast of the 1999 film The Mummy, staring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz. Helping us in this amazing endeavor will be none other than our departments very own resident Egyptologist, Dr. Thomas Schneider! Food and refreshment will, of course, be provided. The location, as usual, will be in Buchanan C 203 (the Seminar Room). We hope to see you all there!
Our second event will be happening October 24th, and we’re really excited about this one. It’s our big party for the semester, and we’re doing it with style, gearing up for Halloween with a Masquerade! Now, you can come formal or not, it’s up to you, just as long as we can’t see your face (beautiful though it may be) we’re happy! That will kick off at 8pm in the Abdul Ladha Science Student Center on the UBC campus (it’s just south of the IKB Library). Admission is free, drinks will be 1 for $3, 2 for $5, and a prize will be offered for the best men’s and women’s costume.
Our next Pizza and Pub night will be November 7th (don’t want to try and compete with Halloween now, do we?), and then November 28th, the last day of classes for the semester. Is there a better way to finish the term? We don’t know one!
We will also be offering more academic services this year, such as tutoring for our departmental languages and other classes, as well as an essay writing workshop for those of you who may feel they could benefit from a little guidance. More on that to come.
That’s it for now, we sincerely hope you’ve all been having an amazing year so far, and hope to see all you beautiful people out at our events soon!
